Emerging Writers' Festival 2011

Today I spoke with novelist and creative writing/literature scholar Amy Espeseth at the Emerging Writers' Festival (EWF).

I've written about the EWF Reader before - it's replete with great writerly stuff (including an essay on distraction by yours truly).

But this was my first EWF in the flesh, and I was impressed.

The mood was craftsmanly: dedicated to thinking through the important concepts of writing, and cultivating the practical skills, habits, connections.

And the questions really enriched and enlivened the conversation.  It was less about celebrity author worship, and more about sharing passion and its practicalities.

If you're into writing - as a professional, amateur or connoisseur - it's well worth the (very reasonable) price of admission.
