Solitude: The Rarest Wine

From Donald Friend's diary, 24th May, 1956:
How extraordinary it all seems; how I who was so wild and wicked, notorious and witty, the life-seeker, hungry for fame, for all that was vivid and restless, desperate for love--here I sit, sipping solitude gratefully as though it were the rarest wine, and living obscurely as I can, feasting only on leisure. How really odd it is.
